INFO PACK

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

U.S. citizens must have a valid passport to enter Slovenia, but do not require a visa for tourist or routine business travel of less than 90 days within a 180 day period.

Slovenia is in the Schengen Zone - your passport must be valid for at least 90 days beyond your intended departure from the Schengen Zone; we recommend that you have at least six months of validity whenever you travel abroad to avoid unintended travel disruptions.  Foreigners must carry official identification at all times (U.S. passport)

All non-EU citizens staying longer than 3 days in Slovenia must register with the local police within 72 hours of arrival. We will do this for you when you check-in in the hotel.

WEATHER AND CLIMATE

In late May and June, the average daily temperature in Slovenia ranges from 12°C to 24°C (54°F to 72°F). Days typically offer around 9 hours of sunlight and are mostly sunny. However, there is a possibility of rain, so it is recommended to bring an umbrella or a raincoat to stay prepared.

Average temperatures:
- Average Highs: 72–77°F (22–25°)
- Average Lows: 52–57°F (11–14°C)

CURRENCY AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION

Slovenia uses the Euro (€) as its official currency. The current exchange rate is approximately $1 = €0.95. You can exchange money upon arrival at the hotel, where we will assist you in visiting an official exchange office or bank. ATMs are also widely available. To avoid additional fees, use ATMs affiliated with recognized banks and opt to be charged in euros rather than your home currency (we will assist you with this).

Credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted at all tourist attractions, hotels, restaurants and shops. However, some small markets or shops may only accept cash, so it’s a good idea to carry a small amount of cash for these situations. Please note that not all establishments in Europe accept American Express card.

Note, that all your meals (three meals per day), transportation (private shuttle) and all entry fees are included in the package. If you will want to buy additional snacks and souvenirs, here are some general price estimates:
- Coffe:  €2
- Bottled water: €1
- Fast Food full meal: €8-10
- Inexpensive restaurant meal: €15
- Soft drinks (juice, cola…): €1,5-2,5

SAFETY AND HEALTH

Emergency Number for all kind of emergency (medical, fire, safety, police …):

dial 112

Slovenia is considered one of the most safe countries in the world. No specific vaccinations are required for Slovenia. For any health emergency there is a free urgent medical service in Slovenia.

TIME ZONE

Slovenia operates on Central European Time (CET / UTC+2). This is 7 hours ahead of Houston, TX (UTC-5). For example, when it’s 3:00 PM in Houston, it will be 10:00 PM in Slovenia. When students start their day at 8:00 AM in Ljubljana, it will be 1:00 AM in Houston.

LANGUAGES

The official language of Slovenia is Slovene. However, English is widely spoken in most places, including hotels, restaurants, and official or administrative offices. Majority of people in Slovenia are fully  proficient in English, so you should have no difficulty communicating or navigating during your stay.

ELECTRICITY, PLUG-INS, ADAPTERS

In Slovenia (and most European countries), the standard is 220-240 volts with two-pin plugs. The common plug types are C, E, and F, which fit into round two-pin sockets

Since devices in the U.S. use different plug types (A and B) and voltage standards, you will need a European adapter to charge your devices. You can bring one from home or purchase one at the hotel upon arrival (approximately €10–€20).

WIFI, DATA, PHONE SINGAL

Free Wi-Fi is available at all attractions and hotels, ensuring you stay connected. However, you will not always have access to wi-fi while walking the streets in cities. Your available mobile data may also not work, depending on your service provider. To avoid high roaming charges or connectivity issues, check with your carrier about coverage in Europe and pricing for calls and data use. Some U.S. providers do not offer service in Slovenia.

As an alternative, you can purchase a Slovenian SIM card with unlimited data for €20-30 upon arrival at the hotel.
